Does Your Business Website Need Search Engine Optimisation?
Take Our Simple Quiz To Find Out…
Dear Business Owner,
If you have a website for your business, it should be generating sales for you.
It doesn’t matter if that’s by taking payment directly for your products or services…
…or developing new leads that you turn into sales at a later date.
Whatever business you’re in, there’s a flood of well funded, credit card touting prospects looking for what you sell.
Even in the current economy, these things are true:
-
- Consumer eCommerce now accounts for 30% of the total retail market in the UK (up from 20% in 2020)
- Annual UK ecommerce revenue is over $120 billion.
- 82% of the UK population bought at least one product online in 2021

Some of those rich pickings are yours for the taking.
But only if you put your website in the way of potential customers who want what you’re offering.
Right now, your ideal customer is on their phone searching for the products or services you can deliver to them.
They could be in their car waiting to pick up their kids. They might be in a coffee shop between meetings. They could be killing time on their commute to the office.
If you’re a B2B provider, your perfect client might be at their desk eating their lunch casually browsing the internet in between bites of their sandwich.
They want the solution you provide to address the problem they have that needs solving right now.
So where do they go to look?
Chances are they’ll go to the mighty Google.
Why?
Because 92% of all online searches are done using Google.
Here’s what you need to know about search results:
-
- Nearly 30% of all website clicks go to the top listing
- 80% of all website clicks go to the sites appearing on the first page.
tteif you are not on the first page of the Google search results, your website (and your business) might as well not exist.
Here’s what gets websites on the first page of Google and that coveted number ranking:
Search Engine Optimisation
So do you need it?
Here’s the quick quiz to see whether your business website needs search engine optimisation:
Quick Quiz
When you do a Google search for each term relevant to your business and the value you offer your customers, do you:
Appear on the first page of the search results? YES/NO?
If you do, are you the first site listed? YES/NO?
If you appear on the first page for all of your chosen search terms but don’t always take the top spot, there’s still some work that could be done to get you to number 1.
That’s still a good place to be because you will be getting traffic because of your site.
But over 50% of searches have never been made before because many are now being made by voice using devices like Alexa and Siri. So if you have the top spot now, chances are things WILL change for you.
If you answered “NO” to both of those questions then your website definitely needs search engine optimisation.
Why?
Because your site might as well be invisible, because no one can find it.
So What Is Search Engine Optimisation?
Search engine optimisation (also known by many as ‘SEO’) is the process of improving the ranking of a website on search engines like Google.
It is a way to increase the quantity and quality of traffic to a website through organic search engine results.
SEO involves a number of different tactics and strategies to make a website more attractive to search engines. This can include things like keyword research, content optimisation, and link building.
By using SEO techniques, businesses can improve their visibility on search engines and attract more qualified traffic to their website. This can lead to increased sales and revenue, as well as a better overall user experience.
So does it work?
Yes definitely. Here’s just one example of how it worked for just one of our many satisfied clients.
A Case Study Of Search Engine Optimisation Success
Busy Bees is the largest childcare nursery provider in the UK.
They have 344+ children’s nurseries across the UK and many more globally.
They began their search for help by Googling “expert SEO services” and “SEO marketing agency”.
They found us.
When they approached us for help they were facing these problems:
-
- Traffic volume to their website was low
- Their search engine rankings were poor for their primary keywords
They’d discovered Google was seeing much of their site as web spam which was harming the brand
They knew they were missing out on more business because their website was underperforming
We’d seen these problems time and time again, so we knew we could help.
Here’s how we worked with Busy Bees.
Step 1 – They Had A Discovery Call
We spent a considerable amount of time understanding the Busy Bees business model.
They told us about their market. They explained their product. They outlined their business processes…
… and more importantly, they shared their business objectives.
Here’s the question we asked them:
What do you want your website to do for you?
Their answer?
“…to be the number one childcare provider on the internet”
Step 2 – We Conducted An Initial Website Review
It is important for us to establish our starting point when we work with any client.
Our initial review is an important one.
Using a variety of specialist SEO tools and techniques, we were able to look at the site in the same way Google sees it.
It helped us identify technical issues that were hurting how Google valued their site.
The review also established how the site was ranking in the search results.
Step 3 – We Agreed A Plan Of Action For Them
Once we understood their business and what they wanted to achieve, and had an understanding of the current website performance, we laid out a detailed plan of action for them.
We deliberately designed it to fall within their budget and so cost was not an issue for them. (More about that in the “How Much Does It Cost” Section below.)
They loved the plan and gave us the green light to begin.
Step 3 – We Did An SEO Fix Of Their Website
The first thing we did was to fix the many technical SEO issues that were harming how the Busy Bees site appeared in the search engines.
Most of the problems we fixed didn’t affect the direct function and operation of the website. The website worked well as a place for Busy Bees to share information about their business.
We call this a “Brochure Website”. Any visitor to the site wouldn’t know any different because it looked good to them.
But…
…to use a car analogy…
… once we looked under the bonnet we realised their Ferrari looking website had a Fiat Punto engine driving it!
…We had to address issues that played a big part in how Google valued and ranked the site in its search results.
If they were not fixed, they’d continue to limit the number of visitors the site got. And ultimately that affected their bottom line.
Busy Bees asked us this question:
“We spent thousands of pounds getting this site built by hiring two web developers, so why do these problems exist?”
That was a great question.
Here’s what we told them.
Web Designers are specialists in web design. Their priority is to make the site work and look good.
SEO optimisation tweaks to a site rarely affect how the site looks.
And so even if the Web Designer has any SEO knowledge, they’ll rarely implement it because it doesn’t affect their brief.
And that’s why so many great looking sites don’t rank well in the Search Engines.
But we changed that for Busy Bees.
Once the technicals were done, we moved onto the next very important step.
Step 4 – Priority Keywords Were Identified
Busy Bees already had a list of keywords they wanted to rank for. This was a great starting point.
However they were missing a ton of hidden keywords being used by people already looking for their service.
Sometimes these hidden keywords are new terms the business has not thought about. Other times they are variants on the keywords already on the list.
What we did was:
Expand the list of keywords Busy Bees already had based on what they’d told us about their business and their marketplace.
Analysed them all to look for terms that had low competition but enough people searching for them to make viable.
Prioritised which keywords we’d focus on.
Step 5 – Web Site Pages Were Optimised For The Priority Keywords
Once we had the prioritised list of keywords, we then set about creating specific pages to target those keywords.
This is where search engine optimisation becomes an art form, especially with the frequent changes in Google’s Algorithm.
In the past SEO was just a case of ensuring a term appeared on a web page a certain number of times. They used to call this “keyword stuffing” a page.
Nowadays, Google is much more sophisticated and so the content has to have context, it has to be helpful and it has to be relevant.
Our expert writing team worked with Busy Bees to create pages for the prioritised keyword list that Google would love and that provided value for their visitors.
More importantly, the pages were also optimised for a call to action to help generate more business.
Step 6 – We Told Google What We’d Done
All the work we’d carried out on the site would be no use to anyone if Google didn’t know about it.
So we told Google what we’d done and primed it to start looking at the new pages on the Busy Bees website.
Step 7 – We Watched, Waited & Tweaked Where Necessary
Once the optimised pages are created and put online, search engine optimisation is a waiting game.
So we waited.
We monitored the rankings of the pages we created.
Where necessary we made adjustments.
And the results…
They were thrilled!
Here’s what happened in their own words.
“We implemented some of the techniques that OMS suggested
and saw an increase in organic keyword rankings in primary
locations within as little as SIX weeks.
The ongoing work that OMS is doing has enabled us
to penetrate new locations and increase enquiries

Search Engine Optimisation Of Your Website Can Generate More Business For You
But…
…it isn’t always the right thing to do.
For example:
Search Engine Optimisation is NOT right for you if:
❌ Your website is already ranking at the top of the search engines for your priority keywords and the organic traffic you get is converting well for you.
❌ You’re happy that you’re earning enough from your website and that you don’t need to explore any of the other channels open to you.
❌ Your target audience is limited and isn’t likely to use search engines to find your products or services.
❌ Your business already has a strong brand and a loyal customer base and you feel you are already generating a sufficient amount of traffic through word of mouth or other marketing channels.
❌ You’ve chosen to focus on using Social Media as your primary marketing channel because it’s free to post regular content.
❌ Your business lacks the resources to invest in Search Engine Optimisation. For example you don’t have the budget to dedicate to it (see below).
Engaging the services of Search Engine Optimisation specialists is DEFINITELY right for you if:
✅ You have a viable business and are frustrated that your website is not bringing you more revenue.
✅ You see the benefits of tapping into Organic Search which is responsible for 51% of all traffic to a website [Note – Social Media is only responsible for 5% of website traffic]
✅ You are prepared to invest the time and resources into your website to improve its search engine rankings, increase the traffic to your site and convert more of that traffic into paying customers.
✅ You want a cost-effective way to attract potential customers by targeting users who are actively searching for products or services that you offer.
✅ You want to improve the user experience of your website by making it more user-friendly, faster-loading, and easier to navigate, which can help to increase the likelihood of users taking desired actions on the site.
✅ You want to increase the visibility of your brand, which can help to increase your brand awareness and credibility.
✅ You want to level the playing field with competitors already using SEO or give yourselves an advantage over those that are not.
✅ …and ultimately, you want more leads and sales for your business
How Much Does SEO Cost?
So what is the cost of engaging us to generate more traffic to your website and increase the likelihood of it converting into business for
you?
That’s a great question.
Here’s the simple answer.
If it costs you in the long term, then we’re not doing it right.
Let me explain.
There will be an initial investment to optimise your website and improve your rankings in the search engine results for the keywords you want to rank for.
When you get someone to do specialist work for you, you should expect to pay for it.
But this is a service that will pay for itself.
Here’s where our approach can help you.
We work within the budget that you define. The only limit this places on us is the number of keywords we can target at any one time and the activities necessary to give you the results for those keywords..
Together we’ll create a shopping list of keywords you’d like to rank for and we’ll then prioritise the best ones for the budget you have.
Once you’ve got more traffic coming to your site for those keywords, we’ll help you improve the conversion of that traffic. That means more
visitors will become customers and revenue from your site will increase.
We recommend that revenue is reinvested back into your SEO activities so your site can be ranked for even more keywords. That will result in even more traffic….even more sales….so even more revenue can be ploughed back into generating even more traffic…
…and so the cycle continues until you reach a level where you’re left with profit after your SEO investment has been recovered.
That way you win.
That’s how you’ll fund the growth of your business, from the purring sales engine your website will become from its search engine optimisation.
To give you an idea of a typical starting point, you should expect a minimum investment of £1.5k-2k per month for at least three months before you can expect to start seeing results.
You also need to factor in an ongoing investment to keep your site ranking well in the search engines, because the Google algorithm and the relevance of your competition will change continuously.
However, this ongoing investment will be funded by the profits you generate from maintaining your position in the search results, all of which can be tracked.
Now You Know That, Consider This…
Here are the options open to you right now:
Option 1 – You do nothing and live with your website as it is right now. That means settling for the current rankings you have in the search engine results for the keywords being dominated by your competition.
The traffic to your site will stay as it is and the needle will not move on the revenue you make from your site. If you’ve been living with that for a while, then you’re probably already used to this status quo.
Option 2 – you can decide to do something about it and take things into your own hands. That’s why we put together our Website
